Triweekly Tuesday Tributes: Take One
I have noticed that while a lot of personal websites feature really awesome monthly or basically-monthly compilations of cool links and recommendations, none of them have incredibly stupid names. I have decided to step in and fix this matter, for the good of humanity. You're welcome.
Books
- I slacked on reading this month due to being on that grindset, but I did start Someplace to be Flying by Charles deLint, which is pretty good thus far. It's urban fantasy.
Articles
- The family that decided to have their stomachs removed: Really interesting look into the intersection of genetic diseases and cultural norms.
- Scientists stunned as chimpanzees turn on friends in killing spree: Holy shit man
- My baby deer plushie told me that Mitski’s dad was a CIA operative: torment nexus type shit!
- In nursing school, my roommates asked to see my breasts. Their reactions confirmed what I already knew: a really touching personal essay from a transracial adoptee about how racism can effect body image.
- Why I wanted to keep my marriage a secret: I find this author's opinions a bit odd(not his aversion to marriage, but his reasoning for it) but it was really resfreshing to read "I just shudder when I hear a man say the words 'my husband'" in a non-homophobic context so I'm sharing it anyways
- Heated Rivalry's Jacob Tierney goes viral for getting candid about his HIV diagnosis: interesting read!
Artists
- Thomas Blackshear II: Painter. His lighting is insane.
- Pearl Fryar: Topiary artist. This guy's use of shape is fascinating!
Youtube videos, TV and movies
- Knights of Guinevere: Pilot: If the rest of this show doesn't live up to the pilot I'm slamming my head through a wall. Dystopian sci-fi with a touch of horror, focusing on two working class women who find a rare but damaged automaton. 11/10 watch it now.
- Animals are giving us weird names: Fascinating explanation of prairie dog communication.
- How to pick your black hairstyles for your OCs: Really great character design tutorial!
- Every ant-manipulation organism explained: Ants are fucked up man idk what to tell you
- Why is everyone Chinese? Well researched and well-explained! The "Chinese room" bit has lived in my head rent free for like a week now. Imagine having enough money to have an extra room just to sit and be racist in.
